Bred in Grand Rapids in the late 1800s, this variety is a Michigan classic! Grown for its large loose heads and frilled leaves, it makes for a romaine substitute with much more flavor and character. Delicious, crisp, and easy to grow.
We have grown this the last 5 years or so. It is easy to grown and has a nice, mild flavor.
Taste great. Grows well
I get quick germination from this variety of lettuce. I have gotten several meals from the fall crop. I have some more growing. When I order seeds with MI gardener , I will order at least a pack maybe two for next growing season.
It was really hot this summer, but the lettuce that I got was beautiful and delicious. I'm going to grow more this fall when it's not so hot to see if I can get a better yield. The picture is off the grand rapids lettuce, Paris lettuce and some red one I can't remember. I got 2 grand rapids in my yield
Being from Michigan, I wanted to try the Grand Rapids Lettuce. I'm so glad I did! Every lettuce variety I have tried to grow before is so quick to bolt and becomes bitter. We are in mid-July & still getting lots of tasty lettuce! I took advantage of the seed sale to stock up on more for next summer. This will definitely be a staple in our familes' garden every year! Also want to add that just like all the other MIgardeners seeds I've tried, these also had great germination!

I grew only a few seeds, but they came up fine, and I was able to get some delicious, sweet melon! I sprayed it once with a copper fungicide, and I should have done it a second time, but I still go melons. (I have a struggle with fungal problems here). Easy to grow, easy to eat!
This stuff feed my garden all summer. Highly recommend
This was one of my first tomatoes from MIgardener seed and I loved it so much. Very tasty green tomato, and even though it was only in a smallish container, it was one of my best producers! Nice clusters (not quite so big and dense as the photo, for me at least...) and great flavor for eating fresh in the garden. I'm not the best with tomatoes, I don't treat them as well as I should, and I grow in Seattle (8b?) which is finicky weather every year, so I was surprised these did so well! Will definitely grow again. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures saved on the vine, but the little green one in the attached photo is one of them!
Love sales. Time to stock up
Pollinators love this flower. Especially honey bees.
They grew in spring then reseeded themselves for fall.
