1 Year Root

Hybrid Wine Variety

‘St Croix’ produces a sweet bluish-red grape that makes an excellent table grape, and is also great for red wine. Very winter hardy vines with little or no winter injury, vigorous growth and good resistance to powdery mildew and black rot. Be sure not to pick the grapes before they are fully ripe, or you will miss out on full flavor- watch for fruit to turn a darker color. St Croix makes a medium to full-bodied, dry, deep red wine with soft tannins and good fruit aromas, with currant and other dried fruit flavor qualities.

Grapes are not particular about soil preference and do especially well in clays and loams that have been improved with organic matter.

The vines are allowed to run as they will the first year and the posting or staking is done the second or third year when you will prune heavily, leaving only 2 or 3 buds on the strongest stem. As it grows you’ll keep only the most vigorous sprout to form the main stem. Shallow cultivation and mulching are beneficial.

Spacing: 8'

Wow!

I am kind of stunned. I planted these shortly after they arrived in spite of unusual wet, cold weather in southern Ohio. Both vines are flourishing. Currently working on a support system and a way to protect them from the local varmints before they're part of the buffet I seem to plant every spring.

Growing Beautifully!

The St. Croix Bluish-Red Grape plant arrived in great condition. I was nervous at first because it looked like I killed it the first couple weeks. 😅 It's really taken off though now! It's gotten so much bigger & has lots of new growth! I'm looking forward to when it produces grapes! I'd definitely recommend buying from MIgardener!

Survived being uprooted multiple times by chickens, moles, and rabbits. Growing well so far in zone 7a.
