Oaxacan Green Dent Corn

Was excited to grow this but there were barely enough seeds to form one block, which matters because corn needs a critical mass planted in proximity to each other in order to effectively pollinate. Luckily germination was good but these plants also really struggled once they were a couple feet tall, which is strange because I had a second type of corn (popcorn) planted right next to it with the same soil and watering schedule and everything and that corn never struggled. Eventually this corn variety did push through and put off pollen but it was premature because there were no tassels, and once the ears and tassels formed there was no more pollen. And since you barely get enough seeds for one small planting I have no way trying to grow this variety until I order another pack. The cost is fairly low so it's not the biggest deal but compared to other types of seeds where you get enough for many plantings in one package, the value in buying corn seeds just isn't really there in my experience. Maybe I'll change my mind if the blue Hopi corn i also bought and will try next does well, but that package only had 19 seeds in it so I'm really hoping it does better than the Oaxaca dent corn. There's little margin for error in these big kernel corn varieties that only have a couple dozen or fewer seeds in the package

Grew this variety for fun, just a few seeds that I started in containers before transferring outside. All of them germinated and are growing healthily.

Waiting to plant these. Very fast getting here.

A lot of them have sprouted so far which is great. Looking forward to the harvest
