This is one of nature’s true wonders. Romanesco broccoli forms heads of cauliflower-like florets in a fascinating conical pattern known as a Fibonacci spiral. That’s right, this isn't make-believe! It's real and it really grows like that! Plants will not form side shoots like traditional broccoli but grow similarly to cauliflower. A very unique, delicious, and stunning vegetable widely grown in northern Italy.

Cauliflower is tough for me

I can't seem to get the hang of cauliflower. The seeds germinate fine, but it is a metaphor problem.

I live in zone 9b/10a, Oakland,CA so we don't get much of a cold winter. My understanding is that brassicas love cool weather and do well without huge temperature swings. The Bay Area barely ever goes below 40 to 50 degrees at night, and then the swings are up to 60s and 70s even in winter which really only feels like this in January and then it goes up from there quickly. So if you don't have big swings and warm winters where shorts are not out of the question, maybe it will do better for you. Totally not MIGardeners fault.
