Determinate - 42-Days” is one of the world’s earliest tomatoes – and it also has excellent flavor. Small 1 oz. fruits are bright red and have very few seeds. While most early tomatoes originate from cooler climates, “42-Days” is believed to have come from Mexico. So it is rather unique as it does well in both cool and warm climates. An excellent choice for pots.

Definitely an early variety!!!

The 42-day tomato is definitely an early variety. It produced tomatoes before all my other tomato plants and it ripened faster than all the others, as well. The tomatoes were also very tasty and sweet! I will be growing this variety of tomato again next year!

Early and Productive

I started the 42 Day Tomato seeds indoors, under grow lights 9 weeks before our last estimated frost date, up-potted twice, transplanted them outdoors mid May, and here on June 23, 2024 we have 2 lbs of nice campari-sized tomatoes from 5 plants, ready for bruschetta! Germination rate was good and the transplants looked hearty. There are still loads of tomatoes left on the plants to ripen. There were lots of flowers as well, but the recent string of 90-95+ degree days here in Chicago (somewhat unusual for mid June) decimated most of the flowers. I have since put a shade cloth over top when it gets that hot, so we will see if the plants flower much more, as they are determinate. I do grow other varieties, so I'll have more tomatoes later in the season, but I'm thinking that next year I might succession sow the 42 Day Tomato seeds. Also, this variety is definitely appropriate to grow in large pots as it doesn't get very large, which is quite something considering the amount of tomatoes it produces!
