Blue Lake Bush Bean is a popular heirloom variety renowned for its exceptional flavor and crisp texture. This compact, bush-type plant reaches maturity in about 55-60 days, producing an abundant harvest of slender, dark green pods approximately 6 inches long. The beans are stringless and tender, making them ideal for fresh eating, canning, and freezing. They are also resistant to common bean diseases, ensuring a reliable and productive crop. Many like the bush version due to its compact size and low growth habit.

I planted ten packets of these beans. I started some indoors, under lights, but most were sewed directly into the ground around June 1 here in central Michigan. They geminated well and the indoor ones started producing by mid-June. The other ones produced well in July and August. The beans were great and the quantitate produced was large. I picked at least 10 gallons of beans and as of this writing, they are still producing (Aug. 30). Highly recommend.
These beans have performed excellent. 100% germination. I planted these late spring in Southern California, which in other climates is mid-summer. They have done great, even when the temps hit 80-95 degrees. I planted 6 per square foot, and they have thrived. I had heard great things about this variety and I’m glad I gave it a try.
