Our 6b Dessert plains climate is an unforgiving setting for growing most greens during the harsh summer, except this attractive & tasty alternative. I hand pick the leaves for attractive additions to salads and rice paper spring rolls. The color is striking & texture delicately crisp. Produces beautiful seed heads also excellent in cut flower bouquets.
Enjoyed plucking individuals leaves for salads - contrasts nicely with romaine and other "greens". Beautifully display of leaves, eventually develops attractive seed clusters towards late summer. Excellent flavor, easier to grow in hotter climates & Ornamental quality in the garden.
High germination rate, good in hydroponic system
I have enjoyed trying purple orach this year. They haven't had a pest issue like so many of my salad plants. I planted them later in the season and in containers on the deck, so I don't think they are reaching their full potential, but I am excited to give them a spot in the garden next year. I may even try a few in the garden yet this fall as the other garden plants wind down and see how they do
I started these seeds in a garden bed in about a 2x2 ft area at the end. They grew to about 4ft tall and would blow gracefully with the wind. They produce leaves all along the stems (you can plant thickly about 1 inch apart due to being tall and skinny) and did not go to seed until into July. The were planted in late spring. They produce secondary leaves at the leaf joints. The taste is similar to spinach, or maybe more mild. It is a great plant and a beautiful addition to salads. The leaves get a tiny bit powdery underneath. I think that is normal. Just wash and eat! I will definitely grow again!

First time ever growing chia . 2 out of the 3 came up. Still little seedlings so far so good.
I love these seed trays! Super sturdy!
Excellent choices of varieties, all of which grow great in my area. I can't wait to winter sow them in a month or two. From past experience I have complete confidence that they will germinate and produce. Thanks, MIGardener!
Fun way to get new interesting varieties in the garden, I love the grab bags! My sister and I have purchased these for the last few years and we make a big deal about the big reveal. We video-call each delivery (we both purchase more than one set) and play some sort of game or announcement of each packet . It’s the highlight of fall and helps us get over the end of gardening season blues!
The taste of this tomato is super sweet. I made pico de gallo and it was a treat. I got a one pound tomato in my grow bag.
