This winter squash is very similar to the sweet dumpling squash. The only difference is the size! Delicata is a large winter squash around 1-3 pounds each and can be stored for months still staying fresh. Vines produce 8-10 fruits per plant. The squash is smooth, creamy, and sweet. A classic old variety is grown for centuries. This style of squash is one of the oldest datings back almost 3,000 years!
But Mrs. Squash Bone Borer insists on finding my vines no matter what. I'd love to succeed in growing these to fruit production.
I wanted to grow a bunch of different types of squash and Delicata was one of the varieties that I was interested based on looks. When I got a nice ripe one, I cut it up into slices, seasoned it with a little garlic and just baked it. Way better than chips, and super snackable!
Easily germinated. Easily grew. It stuck its nose up at the chicken-wire trellis, and preferred to sink its feet freely into the ground. Who can blame it?
I didn't have as much squash as I would have liked, but they were delicious & sweet. Need to plant them in a sunnier location next year..and plant more.
Sweet and yummy. I covered with wire mesh to protect from critters. One of my favorite winter squash.
Received the seeds quickly.

These were cut on April 22nd and planted April 23, 2025. They came up on May 4th. I'm in central SD, zone 4b. Next year, I'll get more!
Hard to leave a review just planted them.. but over all I was pleased when they arrived ❤️
I wasn't sure it would survive when I planted it, but it is growing. Very happy with my purchase
I immediately set this plant outside to begin hardening off. After about 2 weeks, I planted it in it's dedicated grow bag until I get a more permanent planter, and I must say it is living life. It has grown so much since I received it. I believe I'm going to remove the blossoms this year to continue promoting healthy growth.
Love this. I collect stickers on my garden notebook for fun and inspiration and this spoke to me.
