Asclepias tuberosa. Though most monarch butterflies prefer other milkweed varieties (like swamp milkweed), this variety will attract many different kinds of butterflies and pollinators. Butterflies love this variety, as the nectar is the perfect food for them. Plant these to attract beneficial insects into the garden and stun the eye with deep red crimson clusters of flowers. Long-lived and hardy perennial.
Zones 4-8
I'm giving the butterflies more variety this year. They like the lantana and will be thrilled with this.
Always a welcomed flower in our garden!
Sprinkled these in my garden last week and already see some shoots popping out
I winter-sowed these in early March in plastic bottles outside. They germinated/grew easily once spring arrived and were repotted into a bigger pot. Did really well for a couple of months, until I probably forgot to water them for a few days. Alas, butterflies could not get much nectar from brown sticks. I planted them all in the ground in fall, hoping the roots somehow survived below the brown sticks.
Do the opposite of what I did, and you will have great success.
(I thought butterfly weed seeds need cold stratification, which is why I winter sowed them.)
Haven’t planted yet but will here soon.

We have nice fertile soil in our greenhouse and able to control those pesty little flea beetles that can decimate eggplants foliage. I've been keeping them under control with DE and my eggplants are massive in size, about 3-4 feet tall with 1 foot lower leaves.
The eggplants fruit are developing nicely, nearly doubling in size daily. There are plenty of blossoms too. We're expecting that we won't need to grow more for a few years, we're planning on freeze drying most if them.
I purchased several packs of seeds from MiGardener during the semi annual sale, and they did not disappoint! Nearly 100 percent germination rate on all seeds I've planted. The only thing I haven't been able to germinate is lemon grass, which I'm learning may 1 take a very long time to germinate in general and 2 need bottom heat to help them sprout. Even without being on sale 2 bucks a seed pack for the amount they give (very generous compared to other companies, I might add) is a crazy good deal. If you have been on the fence, I encourage you to give MiGardener seeds a try! Thank you Luke and team, and Happy Gardening to all!
I'm not a seasoned gardener, so I don't necessarily know what's normal or not, but out of all the seeds I planted (got about a dozen different herbs and greens from MIgardener), the fenugreek was the quickest to sprout, had the highest germination rate, and the largest sprouting leaves. I'm pretty excited to watch them grow into beautiful plants.
Gardening for over 40 years. The Trifecta very impressed has all the elements I want in a fertilizer. Next year I will buy the largest amount.
Second squash to produce for me. Picked young and the skin is very thin/easily bruises. Roasted first batch and they were a delicious mild flavor! Very soft but the roasting gave a nice crust on them. 2nd batch mixed in a stir fry and it overcooked very easily and was mushy. I like how prolific this plant is and the mild taste. Just need to make sure not to overcook. Well definitely grow again.
