Hardneck
1 full head
Russian Red Hardneck garlic is a robust, heirloom variety known for its strong flavor and excellent storage capability. This hardneck type produces large, purple-striped bulbs with 8-10 cloves each, offering a rich, spicy taste ideal for culinary use. The plants are hardy, thriving in cold climates and resistant to many common garlic diseases. Russian Red is harvested in mid-summer, and its bulbs can be stored for up to six months under proper conditions. Gardeners appreciate its vigorous growth and reliable yields, making it a favorite among garlic enthusiasts. This garlic variety adds a bold, flavorful punch to any dish.
Type: Purple Stripe
Cloves per Bulb: Approximately 8-10 cloves
Flavor Profile: Spicy, medium-hot and enduring when raw, the taste is all strong garlic with a subtly sweet aftertaste when cooked.
Storage Life: 6-8 months
I live in the PNW and Russian Red Garlic thrives here. I typically have a 100% success rate. I tried about 8 other varieties only to keep going back to Russian Red as my hands down favorite. I want the largest most flavorful cloves that I can produce because I find it tedious and time consuming pealing garlic cloves. All my relatives line up to get some Russian Red Garlic at harvest time. I grew about 300 Russian Red in 2024. You can't beat it for a good immune boost.
The clove was small and moldy.
great, seem very healthy
It's some of the biggest garlic I've seen but about half the cloves I got were moldy when I went to plant them
Thanks MiGardener for the wonderful garlic bulbs. They are currently “laid to rest” in their organic bed of compost and richly amended soil under a layer of pine shavings. Looking forward to their “resurrection day” next summer, 🧄😜😂

I think I bought 5 packets which was good for covering 2/6ft beds
Everything grew quickly, lots of nitrogen fixers and it's all still thick & lush. I will chop & mulch into the soil after all this rain probably around December for the winter/spring garden season here in FL
Producing wonderfully :)
This doesn't fail to impress. Great variety that successfully blooms throughout the season!
Great seed quality!
I grew this pepper plant in a 20 gallon pot and it did very well. It produced dozens of small peppers that were spicy—hotter than your standard jalapeno. I put about 3 of these in my salsa to spice it up along with 5-7 whole jalapeños (I roast them which takes out a portion of the yea). This little plant produced so many peppers that I froze a gallon bag of them to use in recipes throughout the year.
