A distant cousin of spinach, this variety is technically not a true spinach but is used similarly for its texture and flavor. This unique variety has small spear-shaped leaves and grows tall and upright. There's no reason to worry about early bolting here. This variety is heat tolerant and will produce all summer long. A great source of vitamin C.
Unfortunately, I planted the seeds over two months ago. While a few did germinate, they haven’t grown beyond the initial sprouting stage. The seedlings remain thin and weak, showing little to no development since emerging.
New Zealand Spinach is easy to grow and slow to bolt. Its sprawling vines sport thick leaves that are wonderful in salad, stir fry, lasagna, and pesto.
In zone 5a, it usually self-seeds and returns the following spring.
very low germination on some of the seeds I purchased and some were "0" germination.
Just received in the mail and planted out in my Greenstalk. Excited to see if this truly can handle the heat and humidity this summer.
Fantastic germination rate and looking good so far!

Perfect
Great fertilizer. Used for the first time last year for my fall bulbs and they were stunning and strong come spring. Planting another 250 bulbs this fall so came back for more bulb fertilizer. I also use the Trifecta. Can’t go wrong with any of Luke’s amendments.
Great germination and very prolific.
I grew this in a straw bale garden in 2025 and really enjoyed it. It grew amazingly well and was beautiful, so I purchased more for 2026. Michigan zone 6b.
