Struggling to germinate.
Round two this week.
I had a hard time getting the seeds to germinate indoors with my other herbs and flowers. I will give it another shot what's up couple alterations added to the packaged ceiling mix I purchased.
I noticed even with my larger seeds and more robust plants with issues like fusarium in my starting soil. The first time I've had to deal with slimy roots. Disappointed with the seed starting mix that was not appropriate for starting seeds. I've made new mix it's cooking at the moment I will screen it and try again.
Many of my plants benefited from a vermicompost tea with some microbial and fungal from Rootwise. More than 300 plants to be rinsed and re-potted.
It's always a benefit if your worm castings have spring tails and other helpful critters among the castings. FYI springtails like mushroom blocks that have been used up.
Good compost should be a balance of fungal and microbial inputs creating an ecosystem of food soil web activity in the bag. That's why the good stuff costs so much. I'm only able to make about 120# of top shelf worm castings, a year with my 40 gallon tote. Party for my garden and a few friends and neighbors.
Buyer beware EB Stone Organics "seedling mix" is needing some better trials and quality control with the product they call seedling mix.b company like EB Stone has been around long enough you think they would know better. Roots don't want to grow into concrete boots in their effort to reach the Promise Land.
If you don't have the ability to make your own seed starting mix or have a moment of pitiful laziness I would suggest avoiding seedling mix bags that way excessive amounts. If your cubic foot of seedling mix weights 50 lb plus, you're going to have problems. I found this particular mixture impossible for healthy seed germination, muddy, sandy, lacking porosity and aeration. Waterlogged at the time of purchase, the mix did not fluff up whatsoever as it dried. Concrete with pieces of aged wood products and rocks larger than bean seeds. There are some great videos on the MiI Gardener YouTube about seed mixes and mixes for different stages of life for annuals and perennials. It's good stuff.
No shortcuts it's always better to make your own ceiling mix.
