Hardneck

1 full head

Chesnok Red-Purple Stripe is a hardneck variety that was originally cultivated in the Republic of Georgia and brought over to the United States after 1985. These bulbs produce 4-6 medium cloves with a paper coating showing beautiful red stripes. The rich sweet flavor holds its own through the cooking process and is sure not to overpower your dish. Chesnok Red is grown well in most climates, from the southern to the northern parts of the United States. This heirloom variety is known to store longer than many hardneck varieties, keeping its vitality into the next spring!

Type: Purple Stripe

Cloves per Bulb: Approximately 4-6 cloves

Flavor Profile: sweet, garlic flavor without heat

Storage Life: 5-7 months

Chesnok Garlic

Ordered Chesnok garlic and planted it four weeks before the first frost date, However, we received frost about two weeks after planting. It didn't seem to bother the garlic, it sprouted anyway and after five weeks in the ground there are dozens and dozens of two inch sprouts. Each bulb had between 7-12 cloves. It was typical to have about four large cloves per bulb and the rest were medium to small, which I planted everything. Peeling these were a little more time consuming compared to the Music garlic. Some of the paper peel would come off and there would be a bare side of the garlic showing, but planted anyway. Mulched with pine bark. Everything is tucked in, ready for winter.
