Hardneck
1 Full Head
A unique garlic variety known for its reddish-brown cloves and bold, spicy flavor. Its aromatic complexity makes it a favorite for adding depth to dishes. The distinctive color and robust taste make red grain garlic a sought-after choice for culinary exploration.
Type: Purple Stripe
Cloves per Bulb: Approximately 6-8 cloves
Flavor Profile: robust and spicy with a hint of sweetness
Storage Life: 6-9 months
I've purchased Red Grain for a number of years and it has been the most consistent garlic seed I've gotten from MiGardener. Bulbs are good sized, with few bad cloves.
Fantastic seed garlic
I am excited to plant this garlic, it has beautiful coloring to it and has nice sized cloves
But no matter what I do, except for the elephant garlic I get small bulbs, even from large cloves and I am starting to suspect that instead of planting at the supposedly correct time, that I need to plant earlier OR that I need to actually leave them in ground over a second winter to get them to their maximum bulbing. Running multi experiments in all my backyard ecozone since last year, and starting up these years batch. Measuring and monitoring.... I WILL discover the secret to growing garlic to full size... I am determined.

Great fertilizer. Used for the first time last year for my fall bulbs and they were stunning and strong come spring. Planting another 250 bulbs this fall so came back for more bulb fertilizer. I also use the Trifecta. Can’t go wrong with any of Luke’s amendments.
Great germination and very prolific.
I grew this in a straw bale garden in 2025 and really enjoyed it. It grew amazingly well and was beautiful, so I purchased more for 2026. Michigan zone 6b.
I have grown these for the last few years and they are hands down my favorite. I like romas and firm tomatoes. These remind me of mini romas. These are less prone to splitting, super easy to harvest and has a super great flavor and very meaty. YUM!
The cloves are large, full and heavy. Of the two cloves I kept (shared 2 with my daughter), 12 were large enough to plant, 1 will be consumed.
