I set aside a small section of my garden last year to cover crop. I planted in the fall of 2023 and mowed it down in early spring. Then I turned over the tops and let them compost for a couple of months. When it came time to plant corn I was amazed at how the cover cropped area grew corn 2' higher than the section next to it! This year my whole garden is covered!!

In the fall of 2023, I planted a 10 x 10 plot of this cover crop mix in the garden to see how it would change the soil. In March 2024, I mowed down the green tops before they flowered. I tilled the roots into the soil. There were SO many worms! I planted corn mid-April. It was about 7' tall by June 30! Lots of pollen and silks. I planted another crop of corn two weeks after the first and it's noticeably shorter and the stalks are not as thick. I'm going to see about getting this mix in bulk at the end of summer and plant my whole garden plot in the fall.
