First time growing carrots and my son picked these. We grew these beside our Danvers 126 carrots, but these didn’t germinate quite as well and grew a good bit slower. While these did come to full maturity (even though they were short) they tasted more bitter than an orange carrot. These were interesting to grow to stay the least.

This is a great carrot to grow , especially if you are growing a colorful carrot garden. 🙂

These germinated and grew better than most of the other carrot varieties I grew this year. They have pretty good flavor but I found it to be slightly more bitter than the sweet orange carrot varieties. They are very juicy and the juice will stain everything! Also, this variety was hairier than any other carrot I grew but that is easy enough to just peel and get rid of.

    stunning and tasty

Made a big mistake with these. I added too much compost to my soil in this bed and these carrots turned out covered with fine roots up and down the main shaft of the carrot, but it wasn’t more than a peeler could fix. My grandkids pranked their parents by putting lots of these carrots in a fresh garden salad made for a picnic without cluing them in on the fact that these will definitely stain anything. The resulting purple smiles were the cause of lots of laughter! I will definitely be planting these again in 2021!

Zone 5b Iowa. I love these carrots. They might turn your hands color for a little while but the antioxidant content is terrific.

    Love MIgardener Seeds!

Interesting color, but I found them bitter. I think I will stick to Danvers & Nates.

Germination was spotty, but since you usually have to thin anyways not to much of an issue. Solid plants, and the carrots taste good!

These were fun to grow and have the kids pull out a carrot that wasn’t orange. Not great for production carrots, more of a novelty.

Can’t wait to harvest these and see the gorgeous color they behold. Migardener never disappoints with great quality seeds for a perfect price point.

Tended to bolt. The ones that stayed in ground were hairier than the danvers or oxhearts. Flavor was ok, not particularly sweet

As other reviewers have said, these aren’t the sweetest carrots and they are very ‘hairy’. I love the color, the flavor is still enjoyable and it gets sweeter when cooked. The ‘hairs’ fall right off with a firm washing and you have a super cool looking carrot that’s good raw and in recipes.

My carrots did not grow well, maybe I planted them too late. Will try again this year.

100% germination. Beautiful plants. 10a here. They’re growing fast. Can’t wait to taste. Plan on using these for juicing and maybe some snacking with ranch

A few pros and a few cons.
Pros: Very unique! You can be one of the only people in your friends group to grow purple carrots….fantastic to get the “WOW” comment on social media lol.
Also has tons of nutrients in it, and it does, indeed, stay purple when cooked! Takes caramelizing well, too!
Cons: They temporarily stain…everything. My hands were a weird purple/gray color. The water droplets all over my kitchen from scrubbing them clean were also purple gray lol. It all wiped/washed off really easily, but it’s definitely a MESSY carrot. So, if you’re not too fond of getting messy, then this probably isn’t the carrot for you.
Speaking of mess, there were roots all along the side of my purple carrots. Now, I do believe I pulled them too young, cause they had that weird soapy type taste (all the carrots I planted had that taste, cause I pulled them all at the same time, and all too young, I’m pretty sure lol). Not sure if that has to do with the weird roots along the whole length of the carrot, or if that has to do with watering or what (we had a TON of rain, which is very weird, so a lack of water definitely isn’t the case in this situation). But, maybe it’s just a this variety thing, too, hence my mentioning it, cause I’m not sure.

Overall, it’s a very unique carrot to grow, and if you don’t mind the temporary mess that’s easy to clean up, then go for it! I’ll probably stick with a simpler carrot next time.

These were an interesting experiment. For me, they germinated well and grew robustly. Unfortunately, I ultimately did not like them. They had an odd, almost menthol flavor. They also were quite juicy. I had to be careful not to get the juice on anything or it would stain.

Grew very well. HUGE carrots! Sweet when cooked. Will grow again.
