Grow a birdhouse! Birdhouse gourds have been used for centuries by aborigine tribes in Africa and are still used today to create homes for birds. The gourds once fully dry will have the seeds able to be shook loose, then dumped out of the hole you make for the entrance. The gourds can even be painted for additional fun.

I grew up with gourds houses hanging from my grandmother’s trees and I can’t wait to show my daughter and also grow some very nice birdhouses

I grew these in a large pot this year and ended up with a handful of gourds. The squash bugs got to my pumpkins, but didn’t seem to bother these. Now to make birdhouses out of them!
