There is a reason they call this cucumber the “national” pickling cucumber, it is because it produces so many cucumbers at the perfect size for pickling that it would be a crime to grow anything else for pickles! This variety produces insane amounts of 5-7 inch cucumbers. Yes you can still eat these fresh and they are delicious fresh in salads or juiced, but when turned into dill pickles or bread and butter pickles (wedged or whole), they are out of this world. Low on seeds, and what seeds are produced are generally small and don’t ruin the texture much. The cucumber is very tolerant to powdery mildew and while not resistant to it, the national pickling cucumber is far more “resistant” than almost any other pickling variety!
